Directions

Directions to APS, information on ground transportation, maps, and more are available on the Visiting the APS page. The workshop will be held in the Bldg. 434 Conference Room.

Site Access & Required Training

New Users: Successful applicants who are not already APS users must register with the APS by October 10 via the APS online form. Argonne National Laboratory is a controlled-access facility. By registering, you begin the administrative steps required to gain approval for you to enter the Argonne site and to do hands-on work at the APS. Special considerations apply to persons who are not U.S. citizens. Please DO NOT come to Argonne until you have received confirmation from the APS User Office that permission has been granted for your visit. You must also complete training required by APS; please follow instructions from the APS User Office.

Current users: We will contact you if retraining is required. Remote training is now available; please complete the remote training or schedule and complete training on-site before the course begins.

Meals

Meals will be provided from breakfast on Thursday, Nov. 20, through lunch on Saturday, Nov. 22.

Lodging

Onsite housing will be provided at the Argonne Guest House for the nights of November 19, 20, and 21, if desired. Payment for any additional nights is the responsibility of the participant. Once notified of acceptance, you may reserve a room by contacting the Guest House. A block of 20 rooms has been reserved; reservations must be made by November 3. Specify “Time-Resolved Macromolecular Crystallography Workshop” when making your reservation. The Guest House is located less than a block from the APS (see map).

A number of other hotels are located relatively close to Argonne; a list can be found by an Internet search. No special rates have been established for these hotels, and participants who choose to stay offsite are responsible for all costs. Transportation will not be provided.

Student Assistance

A limited amount of financial assistance is available to students in need of it. Contact Jane Andrew, specifying the amount of your request. For any reimbursement of air travel, an original airline receipt showing payment will be required.

Proper Attire

The temperature in the APS experiment hall floor is maintained at a constant 72°F (22°C) year round. Proper attire for work in the experiment hall includes closed-toe, covered-heel shoes and long pants. Sandals are not acceptable. Skirts may be worn if a lab coat is also worn.
