All users of BioCARS beamlines must apply for beamtime by submitting a proposal to the APS. Proposals can be submitted as regular proposals prior to the APS deadline for each run cycle or as rapid access proposals on a continuous basis. Proposals are assigned a number and evaluated by a peer review panel prior to decisions on beamtime allocation.

Users will be contacted if beamtime has been allocated for their proposed experiments. There is no cost except for propriety research.

After a proposal has been allocated beamtime and prior to the trip to Argonne, the BioCARS User Registration process must be completed. Please follow the instructions in the section Application for Beamtime to complete the preparation for your visit to BioCARS. The group leader must complete the BioCARS User Database page before any experiment can start. Please follow proper shipping methods to transport samples to/from APS. A variety of computer resources are available for users working at BioCARS. For work done at BioCARS an acknowledgment paragraph has been prepared to add to publications.
