ChemMatCARS has implemented a "rapid setup" crystallography facility that allows us to rapidly switch operation to the single-crystal instrument. The diffractometer is pre-aligned internally and can be moved into the beam when required. This flexibility allows us to take advantage of beam availability at short notice. Thiscapability has been used extensively in user experiments.

micro crystallography setup

In February 2008, we updated this setup by integrating a fast-readout Bruker APEXII detector with ChemMatCAR's new Bruker D8 diffractometer. The new equipment has been commissioned successfully.

General user proposals are being accepted in areas such as

  • resonance diffraction
  • microcrystallography
  • high-resolution charge density studies
  • high-pressure studies

ChemMatCARS is a participating partner in the SCrAPS (Service Crystallography at the APS) Program. This program allows remote access to the micro-crystallography facility.
