2010 Summer Students

ChemMatCARS was in the midst of an upgrade in summer 2010 and therefore hosted fewer research interns. Derek Peloquin, a junior physic major from SUNY University at Buffalo, worked with Yu-Sheng Chen on data analysis.

Summer Student Accepted to DOE Poster Competition

November 2009
ChemMatCARS summer employee Janet Soltau was one of 100 DOE-funded undergraduate researchers selected to present their posters at DOE's 2009 Science and Energy Research Challenge Poster Competition, which took place November 8 and 9 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. Her poster, titled "Silver Nanoparticle Monolayer Surface Morphology," reflects her summer work conducted with Binhua Lin, K.I. Kim, and Brian Leahy of the University of Chicago. Janet is presently a senior majoring in physics, math, and education at the University of Vermont; she plans to become a science teacher. Her work at ChemMatCARS was supported by the Pre-Service Teachers program of Argonne's Division of Educational Programs.

SAS Short Course

ChemMatCARS staff member Mati Meron presented for director P. James Viccaro at "Small-Angle Scattering Short Course 2008: Beyond RG" held June 28-July 2, 2008, at the Advanced Photon Source. The workshop was organized by the SAS interest group of APS users. Its purpose was to enable the community to submit highly effective beam-time proposals and to facilitate better utilization of the resources at the APS.

2007 Summer Students

ChemMatCARS was fortunate to host five talented students this summer, from a wide range of institutions:

  • Robert Dellsy (undergraduate, Tufts University, Medford, MA)
  • Sally Irvine (Monash University, Melbourne, Australia), Australian Synchrotron Research Progam
  • Morgan Jacobs (undergraduate, Contra Costa College, San Pablo, CA)
  • Carla Penicka (undergraduate, University of Chicago)
  • Luka Pocivavsek (graduate, University of Chicago)

Teacher-in-training Jessica Murray has a “golden” experience as ChemMatCARS/PST summer intern

September 2005
ChemMatCARS was very fortunate to host intern Jessica Murray this summer. Jessica came to our lab through the pre-service teacher (PST) program at Argonne. The PST program focuses on students about to enter careers as high school science and math teachers. ChemMatCARS has actively participated in this program for the last two years. more ›
