A new Department of Energy (DOE) requirement becomes effective Monday, May 3, 1999, for all non-U.S. citizens from sensitive
countries who request access to the Argonne National Laboratory site.  The list of "sensitive countries" includes Algeria, China, India, Iran,
Iraq, Israel, North Korea, Libya, Pakistan, Russia, Sudan, Syria, Taiwan and Ukraine among others.

Approval by DOE for access must be obtained before new users will be permitted to enter the Argonne site. Approval involves the completion of a form (IA-473) by the APS User Office, followed by indices checks conducted by or for the DOE.  This approval process can take up to eight weeks to complete.
Any non-U.S. citizen who plans to work at the APS must complete an APS user registration form
(http://www.aps.anl.gov/xfd/user_reg_form.html) at least eight weeks in advance of their arrival date.
The APS User Office will complete and submit the necessary forms and notify the user as soon as access has been approved;
in addition, the User Office will ensure that indices checks for badged users are renewed as they expire (every 2 years).
