What's new in Demeter?
- New graplical toolkit
I am now using a graphical toolkit called wxWidgets that brings a much more professional and polished look to the GUIs. Among many advantages, wxWidgets always takes on a native look and feel. So on Linux, Athena will look like a Linux application and on Windows, it will look like a Windows application.
- New plotting tools
- I am now offering an alternative to the ugly old PGPLOT plotting. It uses Gnuplot, which makes much more attractive and feature-full plots. The GUIs also offer more kinds of plots and more control over how the plot gets made, all while still being quick, easy, and well-suited to the task of plotting XAS data.
- New data processing and analysis features
- The new Athena is much the same as the old Athena, although with a facelift. The new Artemis offers lots of new and interesting stuff, including:
- A revamped, more fully featured path-finder in Feff
- More bells and whistles in Atoms
- Various path abstractions which allow for more power. more flexible fitting models and more interesting plots
- More things are visible on the screen at once -- it is now possible to see a path page and the GDS page at the same time. Drag-n-drop is used extensively to move paths and other things around on screen
Here are a few screenshots of the new Athena and here are some screencast videos demonstrating the use of the new Artemis
- A complete programming interface
- This allows you to write your own scripts and programs using the exact same algorithms as in Athena and Artemis.
- Some backwards compatibility
- Athena project files are unchanged and can move between the old and new versions of Athena. Old-style Artemis project files can be imported (albeit with limited success at this time) into the new version of Artemis.
