Databases of XAFS Spectra

This page is dedicated to discussion and design issues for creating a new web-based database of XAFS spectra. There have been a few attempts at creating web-based collections of XAFS Spectra:

• Farrel Lytle Database

• Model Compound Library at CARS

• Model Compound Library at SSRL/MES

All of these suffer from flaws that have made them less useful in practice than they could and should be.

The most important flaws that all these collections share are:

1. there is no mechanism for outside users to add data.
2. there is no indication of quality of the spectra and/or sample.
3. there is not a consistent format for data (This is especially true for the Lytle data).
