About CARS: Committees
CARS
policies, activities and operations are directed by the CARS Board of Governors, the
Coordinating Committee
and the
Safety Committee
respectively.
CARS Board of Governors
The
objective
of the Board of Governors is to propose policies and advise the University of Chicago on policies for CARS.
The Board of Governors is composed of
two representatives from each of the institutional members of CARS
-UofC, NIU, SIUC, UIC and ANSTO-
and
two representatives from each of
the four national groupings
-BioCARS, GeoCARS, SoilEnviroCARS and ChemMatCARS-
GeoCARS and SoilEnviroCARS representatives are elected by national user groups and serve two year terms.
Meetings
are held twice per year, more frequently if necessary.

CARS Coordinating Committee
The
objective
of the Coordinating Committee is to coordinate activities of X-CARS modules and the central CARS organization. The committee receives reports on activities of the APS, the X-CARS modules and the Technical Directorate and is in charge of overseeing funding, staffing, central management and infrastructure activities.
Meetings
are held bi-weekly.

Safety Committee
The
objective
of the Safety Committee is to advise the Executive Director on the development of safe operating procedures pertaining to beamline operation and other day-to-day safety requirements.
